located at the summit of the I-10 Freeway route between Indio
and Blythe in Southern California.

Situated 30 miles east of Indio, it’s a popular stop for travelers and truckers who want to gas up at the Chevron, get a home cooked meal or browse the unique gift shop at the Chiriaco Summit store, enjoy a cold dessert from Fosters Freeze or land at the airport.

I’m not sure about the date for this fly-out to Chiriaco Summit, but here are more photos to show you a little bit of the desert on the breakfast flight.

The Young Eagles program was created in 1992 to provide an opportunity for kids ages 8 to 17 to take a flight in a general aviation airplane. The program set and made its goal of a million flights for kids by the centennial of aviation in 2003. 40,000 pilots in more than ninety different countries have volunteered their time and airplanes for the program.

Do you know a kid or teen in or near Yuma who talks about being a military pilot or wants to fly for an airline? This program is a way for a pilot to give a first flight for free. If you know a youth who has never flown in a small general aviation airplane before, click here to read more about Chapter 590’s involvement in the program. Parents or guardians are involved in the whole process, so it’s a good excuse for an adult to learn more about general aviation, too. Flights can go from Yuma International Airport or from Somerton.

These photos are from a Young Eagles event. Click to see what it’s all about.

So those were pilots and Young Eagles. Here we have a couple of Bald Eagles….
